Finished Project #12. Painted desk and side table.

I should have counted those two as two separate projects
(although I did paint them at the same time).
I just finished the fourth coat of paint on the armoire
(and when it's dry we will move it to the left of the desk)
and I will most definitely count that as a separate finished project!
My plans for this room included using mostly furniture I already had.
I went light with lots of white because there is no window in this room.
I am going to add pops of color with what I bring into the room.
That comes later.
Who do you think I am?

Here are some other things I loved this week:
LOVED this great advice from Aunt Peaches' Mother.
I find this photo fascinating and I have often thought of working with wire.
This makes me want to move to Paris. Or just pretend to.
A really great tribute to Maurice Sendak.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Extra Instagrams.

A week and a half ago after Sunday dinner
we went for a walk.
Rian would randomly sit down.
Just because.

 Just because.

 Things are getting so green!
Did you know the other day we had a super moon?
Well we did and I just had to take a picture
of it peeking in our half moon window above our kitchen.

A stunning sunset from the other night.
Last night I walked home from a bridal shower
and couldn't resist taking this shot.

Finished Project #11. Chalkboard Wall.

Years ago, I painted this half wall with chalkboard paint.
I had seen it every where and wanted it in my own home.
I loved it so much, I painted it in this room too.

I always wanted a whole wall
in the kitchen or living room to paint with chalkboard paint
but we have mostly walls with windows, wainscoting or chair rails.
My Artist Studio has two full walls
(ok. If you are just stumbling onto my blog,
you wouldn't know that I say that in a wishing sort of way
and mostly with dreams swirling and ricocheting
in my mommy fogged up brain--
which I half way fear is early dementia,
by the way).
I do not consider myself an artist.
But, in this extra room in our house
that I can call my very own
(that has no windows
and once was used as a canning kitchen
by the previous and very first owners),
 I will craft many things
(and not always well)
but I also want to create and pretend to be the simple artist
that's in my heart and in my scattered and rattled brain.
So, I painted one wall,
in that room of mine,
 with chalkboard paint
(because I can
and I had left over paint
which means it was basically free).

It'll do!

Here are some amazing examples of chalkboard paint in homes.
There are so many, many more examples
all over internet land.
Go see for yourself
and get painting!

Finished Project #10. Painted Cabinet Doors in Studio.

Ta Da!
I'm getting closer to the whole room being finished.
Although, it will be a work in progress for a long time.
Why yes. That IS a vintage disco ball.
We are going to hang it in the room soon
I just had to show it off.
That cute little brass light on the counter?
$7.99.
I should have taken a before picture
because it was horrendous.
The dark brown cabinets weren't so bad
it was the dark brown painted counter tops
(not my best idea)
that were Hid-e-ous!

If smell-o-vision were real, you'd be in heaven!

Here are a few more things I loved this week:
In my head, I can make these.
Something is so perfect about this owl wallpaper.
Something is so sweet about these balloons.
Inspiration for future reference:
That mirror tapestry is amazing.

How much is too much?

It's sometimes hard to know how much to push a child.
Any child.
Especially one that is High Functioning Autistic
and has severe psychiatric problems.
Davis has been working at a local nursery in their greenhouse
for an internship through school.
He is set to graduate in a few weeks.
He has been having such a hard time at school and the internship
that we took him out of all his other classes
so that all he needs to do is focus on his internship.
It is just a short 2 1/2 hours.
And usually it's just 2 hours and 15 minutes.
But those 2 hours and 15 minutes
seem to be 8 hours and 59 minutes and 59 seconds.
He has an aide that goes with him.
Just him.
He encourages him.
Redirects him.
Pushes him.
Suggest things to him
and is just there.
And sometimes he lets him call me.
He pleads with me
and sometimes it's enough for him to hear me say,
It is ok. Just take a little break. You can do it.
We feel it's so important for him to learn skills
that could help him with his life.
He thought he'd be learning skills
that would be interesting and important
and that he could use to get a job making big money.
He can't see that he is learning
to stay with difficult task even if he doesn't like it.
He is learning to work through challenges
even if he thinks it's too hard.
He is learning so much.
But he thinks he's just learning how to pluck dead leaves off plants.
It's hard to know how much to push him
and how much to hold back.
He only has a little over 2 weeks left.
We push and push and push.
Today he called to say he was shaking and seeing things.
I even talked to the aide who told me
that he had been working hard and then
all of a sudden he said he needed to sit down.
He could tell something was different.
My heart ached and I had to fight back the tears.
Have him rest for 10 minutes and call me back if he can't make it.
I'll be right there if you need me.
I often see kids come out of the school near that time,
when I go pick him up just outside of his school,
smiling and heading for their cars.
The other day it made me sad.
I wish he could come out that door with a group of friends
heading for a place to eat
laughing and talking.
Talking about what girl is cute
and talking about Prom or plans after high school.
So I go, once again, to pick up that 6 foot 3
shaggy bearded boy of mine.
And again he gives me that crooked grin.
It is hard to know exactly how hard he tries
and what battles he is fighting every day
just to make those 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Today, it was just too hard for him to bare.
It is ok
because he will try again tomorrow.

It's about time....

Everything I know about hard work,
bungee cords and duct tape,
I learned from my Father.
His last day of work
(for the second time)
was yesterday.
I still think he thinks he's in his 30's
and not in his early 70's.
Not that anything is wrong with that!
He is the youngest 70-something that I know.
Congratulations!
I hope you have a long and fun filled
