How to make the Sweet Handmade Paper Snowflakes.

What you need is 6 pieces of square paper (it really doesn't matter the size but these are 12" x 12"---the snowflakes hang better if you use scrapbook cardstock paper--last year my son used printer paper and cut it into squares--and made a bunch of snowflakes that were smaller, sweet and simple).
You also need tape, stapler and scissors.
Davis wanted to help make the tutorial. He is the snowflake making king!

Fold piece of paper in half diagonally.

Fold piece of paper again to make a triangle.

Hold triangle up so that arrow is pointing left.

Make sure that flap opens up at bottom. Now you are set to make the cuts.

Start at right side and make the first cut (about 3/4 in) almost all the way to the top (stop about 3/4 inch from the top). It really doesn't need to be perfect.

Make similar second cut about 3/4 inch from first cut.

Make similar 3rd cut.

Make similar 4th and 5th cut (the snowflakes that I made yesterday I made 6 cuts but this one is made with 5 cuts--using 6 cuts, the strips are just a little smaller).

Now you can open up the square. This is just opened up half.

Fully open up square.

Take the inside square and tape it into a roll.

It looks like this.

Then, you skip a set of strips and take the inside corners so that they just overlap and tape securely.

So it looks like this.

Then, you skip the next set of strips and take the next strips so the inside corners meet and tape securely.

So, now it looks like this.

Now, you flip the whole square over and take the inside strips and tape the inside corners together on this side of the square.

Take the next strips and secure them at the inside corners.

Now, secure the next set of strips at the inside corners.

Now, tape the last set of strips at the inside corners.

It looks like this. Half the strips are secured on each side of the paper.

You repeat all of that 5 more times to make 6 separate papers for the snowflake.

Now to secure them all together you hold each end together as you add each of the six papers.

You keep adding each paper in your hands and match each end together.

Here is four of the papers.

Five of them.

All six of them. Match up the ends so they are in the same position.

Now you staple them several times to secure the ends together (sometimes it take 3 or 4 staples).

This is what it looks like after you staple the ends together.

Lay the snowflake on the table.

Now you need to secure the middle outside strips of each paper together with one staple.

You staple these pieces together with each section of the six pieces of paper.

Here is a close-up of stapling these two sections together.

Another close-up. There are just six of these sections that need to be stapled together.

Now you are done and can punch a hole at the top of one of the sections of the snowflake.

This is what the center of the snowflake looks like where all six of the sections were stapled together.

Snowflake completed!

Add string or ribbon and hang from anywhere!

So pretty!

This is one of the snowflakes I made yesterday. I cut six strips in each paper for this one. The process is the same to make these. They are pretty with color printed scrapbook paper too.
They REALLY are simple once you make the first one!
Enjoy!
